A credit bearing merSETA registered skills programme offered on a full-time basis over 15 days.
The course is suitable for people in the electrical engineering, automotive, and manufacturing trades, in order to achieve relevant skills where joining of materials is required, by using shielded metal-arc (stick) welding. Upon successfully completing the course, learners will be able to solve the most common welding tasks within a metal work environment in order to improve productivity and quality within the workplace.
The structure of the course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to service, maintain, repair or manufacture a product by using relevant basic welding techniques as well as hand skills for shielded metal-arc (stick) processes, in all positions, using jigs.
NQF Level 1 qualification or ABET Level 4
- Selecting, setting up and conducting pre-operational checks of shielded metal-arc welding equipment.
- Understanding the shielded metal-arc welding process.
- Welding work pieces.
- Inspecting welded work pieces for defects in compliance with the drawing specifications.
- Caring for and storing welding consumables and equipment.
Course Content:
US243055 - Prepare and secure work pieces for welding (includes the use of manipulation) - NQF Level 2 - 8 Credits
US243056 - Weld carbon steel work pieces using the shielded metal-arc welding process in all positions - NQF Level 2 - 16 Credits
US243061 - Assemble work pieces in jigs (minor amendments include the use of manipulators) - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits
