Duration: This qualification is run over 4 weeks


Type of course:

A credit bearing CETA registered skills programme offered on a full-time basis over 4 weeks. 

Course outline:

Learners accredited with this course will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the construction industry, read and interpret elementary construction drawings and apply various techniques to organise and represent data in order to model situations for specific purposes. Learners will also be able to interrogate various aspects of financial transactions. 

Entry requirements:

Communication at NQF Level 1 and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 1. 

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner will be proficient in the following areas:
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the construction industry. 
  • Read and interpret elementary construction drawings and specifications. 
  • Estimate, measure and calculate physical quantities in practical situations. 
  • Give opinions on the implications of the modelled data for the required purpose. 
  • Compare, analyse and describe the behaviour of patterns and functions. 

Assessment method:
To monitor progress and effectiveness of learning, continuous assessments (formative) are carried out by way of written tests and practical assignments, throughout the training.

US14889 - Describe the composition,role players and the role of the construction industry in the South African economy - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits

US14054 - Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits

US12444 - Measure, estimate and calculate physical quantities and explore, describe and represent geometrical relationships in 2-dimensions in different life or workplace contexts - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits

US9009 - Apply basic knowledge of statistics and probability to influence the use of data and procedures in order to investigate life related problems - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits

US9007 - Work with a range of patterns and functions to solve problems - NQF Level 2 - 5 Credits

US7469 - Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal and community life - NQF Level 2 - 2 Credits

US7480 - Demonstrate understanding of rational and irrational numbers and number systems - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits
