Duration: This qualification is run over 4 weeks


Type of course:

A credit bearing CETA registered skills programme offered on a full-time basis over 4 weeks. 

Course outline:

Learners accredited with this course will be able to apply basic health and safety legislation in the workplace, carry out secondary assessment of sick or injured persons and provide appropriate primary emergency care at the scene. 

Entry requirements:

Communication at NQF Level 1 and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 1. 

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner will be proficient in the following areas:
  • Apply basic health and safety legislation in the workplace. 
  • Demonstrate the principles of primary emergency care. 
  • Assess and control a single injury emergency scene in the workplace. 
  • Explain and manage shock. 
  • Carry out secondary assessment of the sick or injured person and provide appropriate primary emergency care at the scene. 
  • Keep records of the incident / accident. 

Assessment method:
To monitor progress and effectiveness of learning, continuous assessments (formative) are carried out by way of written tests and practical assignments, throughout the training.

US9964 - Apply health and safety to a work area - NQF Level 2 - 3 Credits

US9965 - Provide risk-based primary and emergency car / first aid in the workplace - NQF Level 2 - 5 Credits

US9967 - Erect,  use and dismantle access equipment for construction work - NQF Level 3 - 6 Credits
